Salma Kiani O.D F.A.A.O
Dr. Salma Kiani, O.D., F.A.A.O., hails from Edmonton, Alberta. She earned her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of the Incarnate Word, Rosenberg School of Optometry in Texas, where she was honored as a member of the inaugural class of 2013 and graduated on the Dean’s Honor Roll.
Dr. Kiani further specialized by completing an Ocular Disease and Surgical Co-Management Residency at Omni Eye Specialists, affiliated with Salus University. She also served as faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science in Baltimore, Maryland, where she instructed optometry interns and ophthalmology residents and cared for a diverse patient base.
Recognized as a ‘Top Doctor’ by Baltimore Magazine in November 2018 and November 2021, Dr. Kiani is currently the Alberta representative for the Canadian College of Specialties in Optometry Fellowship Working Group Panel. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Alberta Association of Optometry, and a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa and Gold Key Society.
Dr. Kiani offers comprehensive eye examinations, evaluation and treatment of ocular emergencies, specialty contact lens fittings, surgical co-management, annual diabetic exams, and treatment and management of eye diseases. She is proficient in conducting eye exams in Urdu and Hindi.
In her personal life, Dr. Kiani is a mother of three and enjoys spending time with her family.
Research
Dr. Salma Kiani has actively participated in cutting-edge research in the field of optometry
Dr.Kiani participated in Dr. Patricia C.Sanchez-Diaz’s research group involving miRNA expression in retinoblastoma stem-like cancer cells.
As an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta, Dr.Kiani was involved in an independent research study in 2008. The central objective of the study was to understand the dialectical interaction between socio-cultural frameworks and psychological lead by Takahiko Masuda, PhD.
